School's Out, Science is In: Chemical Reactions
Wednseday, December 28, 13 p.m.

Scientists of all ages are welcome to discover what happens when certain chemicals interact, sometimes with gooey and messy results! Participants will have a blast watching the museum-made volcano erupt in a colorful flow of lava ooze! Free with admission.

 

New Year’s Eve Family Fun: A Night on the Nile!
Saturday, December 31, 69 p.m.

Party like a pharaoh and celebrate New Year’s Eve with the theme of a Night on the Nile.
Enjoy festive arts, crafts and entertainment, then float into the future with a lighted ball drop at 9 p.m. $5 members/$10 nonmembers/$3 public assistance and ages 1 & 2. Presenting Sponsor: Foresters. Celebration Sponsor: Oregon College Savings Plan. Countdown Sponsor: Les Schwab Tire Centers. Tickets go on now at the museum.

Let’s Make It Snow
Saturday, January 7, 1–3 p.m.
Come inside where it’s warm for a winter wonderland experience. Discover the magic of “insta-snow” and create unique snowflakes and snowman (or woman) crafts. Free with admission.

 

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Celebration
Monday, January 16, 11 a.m.–3 p.m.
Share your dreams for a better world as we honor the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
We will celebrate with crafts and activities, including an optional all-ages service project.

 

Lunar Calendar New Year Celebration
Saturday, January 21, 1-4 p.m.
Celebrate the New Year with us again! How you ask? Other countries, including China, Korea, Vietnam and Japan celebrate the New Year based on the lunar calendar. We will have cultural crafts representing these countries, plus traditional activities and food samples. Free with admission.

You & Me Valentine Tea
Tuesday, February 14, noon–1 p.m.
Bring your little sweetheart for a tea party at the children’s museum. Finish off your “date” with a craft activity for two. $3 per family for members/$5 per family nonmembers (plus admission). Call 503-371-3631 to reserve your spot.

A. C. Gilbert's Birthday
Wednesday, February 15, 1 p.m.–until the cake is gone!
A.C. Gilbert, the namesake of the museum, would have turned 127 on February 15. Learn about his fascinating life, many inventions and lasting legacy as we celebrate in his honor. Check out our inter-active exhibit, A.C. Gilbert’s Imagination Station, while you are visiting.

Discover the Wonder
Annual Fundraising Dinner & Auction
Friday, February 17, 69 p.m.
Support the children’s museum during this fundraising dinner and silent auction. The evening will also serve as an awards ceremony for the museum’s devoted supporters. A portion of the proceeds from this event go to support ACCESS, the museum’s community outreach program. Tickets are $50.

Science in the City
Saturday-Monday, February 1820
Enjoy 3 full days of science fun at the children's museum and throughout the city of Salem. Explore the science of energy with new activities and demonstrations each day! Join us for "hair-raising" demonstrations and science shows, "explosive" fun with chemistry students and "electrifying" experiments. Look for a city-wide Science in the City videocast contest which debuts February 1.
