Ball Run

Discover the physics of fun on the towering ramps attached to our industrial climbing structure! Located directly on the silver metal framework of the Erector Set Maze, the Ball Run is an interactive engineering exhibit where visitors experiment with gravity, kinetic energy, and the unpredictable paths that objects take when racing downward.

This vibrant blue wall features a custom system of flexible silver tubes, colorful funnels, and clear tracks that let you trace every ball's path as it races toward the bottom. Rearrange sections to create new routes and test which design is fastest. Drop balls into the plinko boards where clear pegs send them bouncing in random directions, adding an element of chance that challenges young scientists to predict landing zones.

From observing cause-and-effect relationships to engineering custom pathways and catching balls in collection bins for repeated trials, the Ball Run teaches that physics isn't just theory - it's visible, testable, and endlessly entertaining when you're racing marbles down a massive outdoor machine.

    • Interactive Blue Wall: A custom-built system featuring funnels, tracks, and flexible silver tubes that can be rearranged

    • Plinko Boards: Clear peg boards that send balls bouncing in random directions, adding an element of chance to the physics

    • Collection Bins: Targeted landing zones that allow for easy retrieval and repeat experimentation

    • Science: Observing the phenomena of cause and effect, kinetic energy, and the pull of gravity

    • Engineering: Designing and testing different paths to see which route is the most effective

    • Physics: Understanding how different angles and obstacles affect the speed and trajectory of a moving object

    • Tangible World: Manipulating and rearranging ball paths using fine motor skills and strategic planning

    • Observation: Visual tracking and predicting where a ball will exit the system based on its starting point

    • Scientific Investigation: Formulating a theory on where the ball will land and testing it through repeated trials
