Membership FAQs
General Information
-
Gilbert House Children’s Museum’s membership program provides community members with extra benefits and incentives to come and play multiple times throughout the year.
-
A children’s museum is defined as a nonprofit educational and cultural institution committed to serving the needs and interests of children by providing exhibits and programs that stimulate curiosity and motivate learning. Our primary focus is working with and on behalf of our membership. All activities are in service to the enrichment, expansion, and advancement of the community we serve.
-
Benefits begin immediately upon purchase and last for one full year. If you are purchasing membership as a gift, we encourage you to purchase a Gift Card for the value of the desired membership level so the recipient can choose their own start date. Memberships may be upgraded at any time, but this does not extend the membership period.
-
Yes! You may apply the price of your admission receipt toward a membership if purchased on the same day. (Limit: one receipt per membership).
-
Because memberships are non-transferable, at least one named adult on the membership must be present for the party to be granted admission.
-
Yes, we require a photo ID at every visit to ensure your membership benefits are protected. To make check-in even faster, you can ask our Welcome Desk staff to take a photo to keep on file for your account! This option is available for all named members on your membership.

Reciprocal Partners

ASTC Travel Passport Program
The Association of Science and Technology Centers (ASTC) is a global organization of science centers and museums dedicated to furthering public engagement with science. As a proud member of ASTC, Gilbert House Children’s Museum participates in the Travel Passport Program, which grants our members free general admission to over 350 science centers and museums worldwide.
The 90-Mile Radius Rule: To support local institutions, ASTC policy states that museums located within a 90-mile radius of your "home museum" (Gilbert House) are not eligible for free admission.
Excluded Museums: Because they fall within this 90-mile radius, OMSI (Portland) and Eugene Science Center do not participate in free reciprocal admission for Gilbert House members.
Local ASTC Partners: The following Oregon museums are participating partners and offer benefits to Gilbert House members:
Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum – McMinnville, OR
ScienceWorks Hands-On Museum – Ashland, OR
Sunriver Nature Center & Observatory – Sunriver, OR
We strongly recommend visiting the specific museum’s website or the ASTC website ahead of time to verify current restrictions.
Before You Travel
Check for exclusions. Make sure the science center or museum you are visiting is not located within 90 miles of either your home residence and the science center or museum that you belong to. This distance is measured as a linear radius, not driving distance. (You can check the linear distance on Google Maps by following these instructions.)
Review the family admittance policy of the venue that you intend to visit. Call before you visit to confirm your Passport Program benefits.
Pack your ID (or other proof of residence). Admissions staff reserve the right to request proof of residence for benefits to apply. Passport Program venues requesting proof of residence are marked by “Proof of Residence Required“.
Pack your membership card. Passport Program venues are not required to grant benefits to visitors who forget their cards. There is no universal database with all Passport visitors’ member data for admission staff to reference. Some venues will allow you to call your home institution to confirm your membership, but they are under no obligation to do so.
Lost your card? Please contact your home science center or museum. ASTC does not issue or administer membership cards.
