Construct your own sanctuary in our signature outdoor hideout! Fort Gilbert is a dedicated space where hands-on building meets creative relaxation. Using a unique system of canvas panels, clips, and oversized blocks, young engineers design custom outdoor retreats while developing spatial planning, structural problem-solving, and teamwork skills.

Rig up walls, roofs, and tunnels by draping fabrics and securing connections with simple clips and fasteners. Test structural stability as you engineer hideaways that are both functional and comfortable. Climb to elevated wooden platforms to survey your creation from above, hang hammocks for lounging, or use oversized blocks to build towering fortress bases that provide the foundation for fabric construction.

This exhibit offers a perfect balance between active building and peaceful retreat. Whether clipping up a new hideaway, masterminding an elaborate multi-room headquarters, or simply resting in a self-made sanctuary, Fort Gilbert teaches that building isn't just about the end result - it's about planning, testing, modifying, and creating a space that's entirely your own.
